Background:

CoolSpine was spun out of Yale University in 2006. The company has developed and successfully tested prototypes for both the spinal and brain applications. Testing in large animal models has been completed for both applications. Two series of experiments have shown efficacy in achieving localized hypothermia to a degree consistent with a protective benefit in humans. The results of the spinal cooling product were published in The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery (2007; 48: 103-8). For our brain cooling platform, we have been awarded a Phase I and Phase II grant from the National Science Foundation.
